JOB ADVERT – WINDER FITTER TECHNICIAN (01 VACANCY)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit Winder Fitter Technician to join our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align with the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his team and the business and on a practical note will ensure activities in the Engineering department are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.
Reporting to: Shaft Mechanical Supervisor
Duration: Permanent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure safe and effective operation of the shaft winder for the haulage of ore, persons, and materials during a shift.
- Undertaking maintenance, fault finding and repairs of winders.
- Inspecting gauging and measuring work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications.
- Monitoring machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; stop machines when problems occur before they become unsafe.
- Complete daily inspection checklists for tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Report problems and make recommendations to Supervisors.
- Conduct fitting work which supports maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations of mechanical equipment per work orders and breakdown work orders.
- Consider direct environment risks.
- Conduct risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control.
- Know and exercise the basic principles of safety and mining.
- Comply with safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Identify and report unsafe and hazardous situations in work area.
- Take care of your own safety and the safety of fellow employees.
- Comply with Quality standards and deliver in a manner that support and meet operational quality standards.
- 100% Compliance to Standard Operating Procedures for safe work daily –Isolation, Lockout, confined space, working at height, lifting & rigging
- Ensure parts and components are selected and replaced as required in accordance with specification and work plan
- Competent in the use/operation of all required power tools and hand tools, inspected and maintained daily
- 100% Compliance to Equipment Preventive Maintenance Schedule & work carried out accordingly daily
- Ensure correct size, type and quantity of materials/components are determined, obtained, and inspected for compliance with the job specifications
- Complete timeously, all logbook and WED logbooks as required by your supervisor
- Complete job cards and inform your supervisor of any deviation on the job card in writing on the job card
- Assist when required to maintain other system on the mine as instructed by your supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma/FTC/ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Secondary certificate
- Valid driving license
- Hydraulic system certificate is an added advantage
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 3- years’ experience as a Winder Fitter
- At least 3-years’ experience on Industrial Mechanical Fitter

- Communication skills

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge on Ammonia Plant, Ventilation exhausting Fans, rock breakers, conveyor belts and other Shaft equipment’s is an added advantage.
