Job vacancies
The Tanzania Teachers Union (TTU) is a trade union for employees in the teaching profession operating in Mainland Tanzania. The Union is registered under Registration Number 004 pursuant to the Employment and Labour Relations Act No. 6 of 2004 and employs permanent staff working across regions, districts and at its headquarters.
To improve services to its members, the Tanzania Teachers Union (TTU) announces vacancies for Personal Secretaries and Lawyers. Qualified Tanzanian applicants who are ready to work anywhere in Tanzania are invited to apply.
1. Personal Secretary – 27 positions
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must have completed Form Four or above.
- Must possess NTA Level 4, 5 and 6 qualifications in Secretarial Studies recognized by NACTE.
- Must have experience in using computers and the internet.
- Must have at least two years of experience.
- Must be able to communicate fluently in Kiswahili and English.
Duties and responsibilities
The Personal Secretary will be responsible for:
- Typing various documents for the Union.
- Maintaining various records as directed by his/her supervisor.
- Receiving visitors and directing them to the appropriate place where they can receive assistance.
- Receiving various office communications and forwarding them to the relevant supervisor.
- Maintaining cleanliness in the Union’s offices.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all office matters and performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
2. Lawyer – 4 positions
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must possess a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from a university recognized by the Government.
- Must have attended the School of Law and been admitted as an Advocate.
- Must be able to speak and write Kiswahili and English fluently.
- Must be able to use a computer.
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
- Applicants with a professional background in teaching will be given priority.
Duties and responsibilities
The Lawyer will be responsible for:
- Handling various cases involving the Union and its members before courts and institutions authorized to hear legal matters.
- Reading and interpreting laws and various legal documents.
- Providing legal advice to teachers and the Union.
- Resolving employment-related disputes faced by teachers.
- Following up on the implementation and resolution of various challenges affecting teachers in Government offices and employers’ offices.
General conditions
- All applicants must be Tanzanian citizens and must not be above 45 years of age.
- All applicants must attach a birth certificate.
- Applicants must attach a detailed CV containing reliable address and telephone contact details, together with the names of three reliable referees.
- Applications must be accompanied by academic and professional certificates, including copies of Form Four and Form Six certificates for applicants who reached those levels, as well as certificates for other relevant training completed in accordance with the requirements of the position applied for. The attachments should be securely fastened to prevent them from falling off or getting lost.
- Applicants must include Form IV and Form VI examination certificates, where applicable.
- Applicants must include professional certificates.
- Applicants must have at least two years of experience.
- One recent passport-size photograph must be attached, with the applicant’s name written on the back.
- Applicants who studied outside Tanzania must ensure that their certificates have been verified and authenticated by the relevant authorities, including TCU and NECTA.
- Applicants who submit forged information or qualifications will face legal action.
- Applications may be written in Kiswahili or English.
- Only applicants who meet the required criteria will be invited for an interview.
- The deadline for receiving applications is 1 September 2026 at 10.00 Jioni, as stated in the original vacancy notice.
