Aquahub is an innovative blue economy and mariculture enterprise committed to sustainable aquaculture, community-based contract farming, and responsible marine resource development. To support the expansion of its technical operations and processing capacity, Aquahub invites qualified, motivated, and results-oriented professionals to apply for the following positions.
All positions are based in Pemba, Zanzibar and report to the General Manager under a full-time contract unless otherwise noted.
1. Financial Officer (1 Position)
Role Purpose The Financial Officer will be responsible for ensuring sound financial management, compliance, reporting, and internal controls to support Aquahub’s operational growth, donor-funded activities, and commercial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, cash flow, and expenditure tracking.
- Prepare financial reports in line with donor and organizational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procurement procedures, and audit standards.
- Support project budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Coordinate with auditors, finance partners, and management on financial reviews.
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounting systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in financial management, preferably within development projects or donor-funded programmes.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
2. Aquaculture Technicians (1 Position)
Role Purpose The Aquaculture Technicians will support Aquahub’s marine operations, including sea cucumber farming, hatchery support, contract farming pilots, and field-based technical supervision of community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily aquaculture operations (sea cucumber farming, pens, and grow-out systems).
- Assist in hatchery and nursery activities.
- Provide on-site technical support to sea cucumber farming.
- Collect production, growth, and survival data.
- Support biosecurity, environmental monitoring, and best management practices.
- Prepare technical field reports and recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Marine Sciences, or related field.
- Practical experience in aquaculture or mariculture operations is highly desirable.
- Willingness to work in coastal and remote field locations.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and reporting skills.
3. Algae and Live Feed Specialists (1 Position)
Role Purpose The Algae and Live Feed Specialists will be responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining live feed and algae production systems to support hatchery and nursery operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and manage algae and live feed production systems.
- Maintain culture quality, density, and contamination control.
- Support hatchery feeding protocols and schedules.
- Monitor water quality and culture performance.
- Train technicians and interns on live feed systems.
- Maintain production records and technical documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Biotechnology, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in algae and live feed culture.
- Strong understanding of hatchery systems and water quality management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
4. Marine Engineer (Internship)
Role Purpose He or she will provide technical support for marine infrastructure development, including construction of farming/capturing systems, support and recommending on processing machinery, and other aquaculture-related structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Support design, construction, and supervision of marine and onshore infrastructure.
- Provide technical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Ensure construction quality, safety, and durability in marine environments.
- Coordinate with contractors, technicians, and management.
- Provide technical input for infrastructure planning and upgrades.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Marine engineering, Building and Construction, or related field.
- Experience in marine, coastal, or industrial construction is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of construction materials suitable for marine environments.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
