Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Trading, the Fixed Income Trader executes daily activities on the Fixed Income (FI) Trading Desk in alignment with approved strategies and risk limits. The role is responsible for driving portfolio performance, monitoring money market and bond dynamics, delivering value-added pricing solutions to internal and external clients, and collaborating across CIB Markets Sales, Corporate, and Retail Banking.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Trading, Execution & Portfolio Management:
Execute fixed income trades across government bonds, corporate debt securities, and money market instruments within approved risk appetites.
Manage inventory positions, optimize risk-adjusted returns, and ensure liquidity while monitoring portfolio performance against benchmarks.
Analyze yield curves, credit spreads, monetary policy, and macroeconomic trends to capture profitable trading opportunities.
Oversee efficient trade capture, pricing, settlement, and daily reconciliation processes.
Client Engagement & Market Intelligence:
Build strong relationships with institutional, corporate, and high-net-worth clients by providing timely market commentary, yield analysis, and pricing quotes.
Produce market research and trading recommendations to support client mandates and internal strategy.
Partner with Markets Sales and Banking teams to cross-sell Global Markets solutions.
Risk Management, Control & Compliance:
Monitor and manage market, credit, operational, and liquidity risks within approved bank parameters.
Promptly report breaches, unusual market activities, or valuation discrepancies to risk officers and the Head of Trading.
Maintain compliance with Bank of Tanzania (BoT) regulations, internal governance frameworks, and ethical conduct standards.
Stakeholder Alignment & Operations:
Work closely with Treasury, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Finance teams to streamline desk activities.
Participate in new product development, process improvement, and relationship maintenance with market counterparties, brokers, and custodians.
Candidate Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Management Studies, or a related field. Absa Bank Tanzania
Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in fixed income trading, treasury management, or money market operations within a commercial bank or financial institution.
Key Technical & Behavioral Competencies:
Comprehensive understanding of Global Markets products, yield curve dynamics, macroeconomics, and fixed income valuation.
Demonstrated ability to manage inventory, price debt instruments, and execute trades under market pressure.
Strong financial analytical skills and familiarity with trading systems and financial reporting software.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and client presentation abilities.
High adherence to professional ethics, integrity, and regulatory compliance standards.
