Job Summary
The Fleet Officer supports the implementation of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) transport policies and operational processes. Reporting to the Head of Department, the role plans and coordinates vehicular movements, product dispatch (cement), and raw material haulage between the Plant and approved locations across Tanzania. The position ensures orderly depot operations, adherence to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines, optimal fuel recovery, and efficient turnaround times for fleet operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Plant Operations & Loading Coordination:
Direct and manage vehicular traffic, loading, and off-loading activities inside the Plant to maintain depot orderliness.
Coordinate product loading onto allocated trucks using a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) dispatch system.
Ensure proper storage and handling of incoming raw materials and spares at designated plant facilities.
Fleet Tracking & Logistics:
Liaise with transporters and drivers to collect real-time data on truck arrivals, mechanical breakdowns, and emergency occurrences.
Allocate vehicles promptly for transporting spares and other items needed by various plant departments.
Coordinate backhaul arrangements to ensure trucks return with raw materials from designated points whenever feasible.
Risk, Health & Safety Compliance:
Enforce DIL Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards across all logistics and transport operations.
Track fuel recovery (AGO) for shortened mileage routes.
Ensure immediate collection and filing of documentation for vehicular accidents or operational incidents.
Reporting & Operational Oversight:
Prepare regular reports detailing plant logistics activities, key operational metrics, and process recommendations.
Execute additional tasks and operational directives assigned by senior management and HODs.
Key Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Logistics & Transport Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field.
Experience: 3 to 5 years of practical experience in transport management and large-scale fleet operations.
Knowledge & Technical Skills:
Solid understanding of cement manufacturing logistics trends, fleet regulations, and distribution models.
Knowledge of inventory management terminologies, system-based inventory tools, and MS Office applications (Excel, Word).
Familiarity with route optimization, fuel management, and emergency response reporting.
Behavioral Competencies:
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation skills.
High attention to detail with excellent written and oral communication capabilities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing operational demands.
