Since its establishment, the organization has been implementing programs that target women, children, and youth in marginalized communities, with the aim of improving their health and well-being, eliminating female genital mutilation, child marriage, and other forms of gender-based violence.

Project Overview

NAFGEM a sub awardee to Pact implements the Adolescent and Children HIV Incidence Reduction,

Empowerment, and Virus Elimination (ACHIEVE) project, whose primary goal is to attain and sustain

HIV epidemic control among pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, infants, and children.

The project has recently expanded its scope to include a Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, and Nutrition (MNCHN) intervention. This intervention will be implemented in six selected councils across Kilimanjaro, Manyara, and Lindi regions aiming at improving maternal and child health outcomes. To achieve this objective, NAFGEM will work with the government to strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers to provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care, enhance selected Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) facilities through the procurement of essential medical equipment, and build the capacity of healthcare workers to conduct nutrition assessment, counseling, and management of malnutrition among children under five years of age.

Position: MNCH and Nutrition Regional Officers – 3 positions (1 Lindi, 1 Kilimanjaro and 1 Manyara) Contract duration: 6 months (March – August 2026)

NAFGEM is seeking enthusiastic, creative, and energetic individuals to fill the following vacant positions for the ACHIEVE Tanzania Project:

Position Purpose;

The Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Nutrition Regional officers will therefore coordinate, implement, and monitor the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) and Nutrition interventions across the assigned region and its councils. This position will ensure quality program delivery and support capacity-building efforts to improve the maternal and child health outcomes.

The MNCH and Nutrition Regional Officer will work closely with the regional and council health teams, implementing partners, and health facilities to ensure effective execution of MNCH and nutrition activities, adherence to national guidelines, and timely reporting.

Specific roles and responsibilities  

The MNCH and Nutritional Regional Officer will perform the following roles and responsibilities: –

• Provide technical advice, direction, and quality assurance, and support high-quality technical delivery of MNCH and Nutrition activities under the ACHIEVE project in the assigned region.
• Ensure that MNCH and Nutrition activities are aligned with national guidelines, standards, and protocols.
• Coordinate with regional implementing partner(s), government, and other stakeholders to ensure that activities are planned, implemented, and monitored in line with the annual work plan.
• With support from ACHIEVE MNCH and the Nutrition Coordinator, support the government Master Trainers in training of Facility Champions as needed.
• Support and monitor Facility Champion coaching and mentoring activities at the health facility level.
• Provide any other forms of required technical assistance, supportive supervision, and mentoring for government, facility, or community health providers as needed.
• Monitor implementation of MNCH and Nutrition activities in the assigned region to ensure timely completion of objectives and targets.
• In collaboration with the MNCH and Nutrition Coordinator, contribute to developing relevant deliverables (quarterly or annual reports, field project evaluations, work plan updates, etc.) in conjunction with other key staff, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring that the technical achievements, best practices, lessons learned, and innovative models, if any, are well documented.
• Maintain effective relationships with the R/CHMTs and other regional MNCH and Nutrition stakeholders and represent ACHIEVE in regional and council MNCH and Nutrition partner coordination forums.
• Contribute as needed to the development and/or technical review of targeted technical or educational materials.
• Lead regular review of MNCH and Nutrition routine data from health facilities (e.g., DHIS2/HMIS, nutrition registers).
• Conduct data quality checks (completeness, timeliness, accuracy) and support facilities and councils to address identified gaps.
• Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly regional MNCH and Nutrition performance summaries highlighting trends, gaps, and priority actions.
• Support identification of underperforming indicators (e.g., ANC attendance, facility delivery, child growth monitoring, SAM referrals) and recommend corrective actions. ▪ All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

Diploma in medicine, nursing/Midwifery with 3+ years relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience in MNCH and Nutrition programming.
• Demonstrated experience working with the Regional/council MNCH and Nutrition structures.
• Relevant work experience in at least one of the following technical areas: Maternal Health, Child Health, Nutrition, and other health-related fields.
• Experience with USG-funded projects in Tanzania.
• Experience in working with donor programs that require health facility and/or community-level engagement.
• Good training facilitation and delivery skills.
• Fluent in both written and spoken English & Kiswahili.
