SNV Netherlands Development Organisation http://www.snv.org/ is a Dutch-based international development organisation that provides market-based solutions for the poor through local institutions and organisations in 24 developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Working in Agriculture, Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, we have built a long-term, local presence in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors works with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.
With over 50 years of working to support Tanzanian communities, we have a long track record of achieving scale and sustainability that makes a lasting difference in the lives of people in poverty. SNV in Tanzania’s diverse portfolio covers climate-smart agriculture, landscape conservation, renewable energy, and water, sanitation and hygiene.
Empowering Smallholder Farmers for Food Security and Climate Resilience (NOURISH Tanzania) is a five-year project that aims to achieve resilient food security and improve nutrition for SHF households in key regions of Tanzania.
The project focuses on two areas, both of which experience food insecurity and malnutrition, but which are distinctly different: the central-northern zone (Singida, Dodoma, Manyara) which suffer from acute food insecurity and Southern Highlands (Songwe, Rukwa) which faces chronic malnutrition.
The project has reached its mid-term stage with a strong foundation laid through improving smallholder farmer households’ knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and nutrition practices, while also strengthening engagement with critical stakeholders. Moving forward, the project aims to deepen adoption by consolidating access to essential services, strengthening linkages, and addressing key systemic barriers that have been identified.
Through this placement, the project will enhance its field presence and community engagement, strengthen linkages and service delivery, and broaden outreach
The NOURISH Project is recruiting a nutrition intern to support nutrition activities across project districts and clusters in the Rukwa and Songwe Regions. The Nutrition Intern will support the implementation of nutrition-focused activities under the NOURISH Project at the community level, working closely with community health workers, farmers, local leaders, extension officers, and other stakeholders in the target areas.
The role is field-based and focuses on strengthening nutrition outcomes through Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC), promoting dietary diversity, improving gender household dynamics and supporting integrated agriculture-nutrition interventions.
The intern will provide technical assistance to community health workers, monitor field activities, collect data and document results to support effective programme implementation. In addition, the Nutrition Intern will provide on-the-job guidance and mentorship to agriculture interns to ensure strong integration of nutrition within agriculture interventions.
The role will also support quality assurance of community-level nutrition interventions by strengthening the effectiveness of CHW-led household visits, group dialogue sessions, community mobilisation activities, and behaviour adoption monitoring
