The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields of Northwestern Tanzania, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. GGML’s head office is located in Geita, about 5 km west of the fast-growing town of Geita, with an additional supporting office in Dar es Salaam.

Position details

Position: Operator 1 – TFM
Department: Engineering
Location: Geita Gold Mine, Tanzania
Employment status: Full time

Objective of the role

The Operator 1 – TFM will be responsible for delivering safe and efficient fuel truck driving and fuel dispensing services to equipment in order to support departmental performance at the lowest practical unit cost.

The role holder will also be required to comply with company requirements and complete approved work and tasks safely and correctly across the pit and other operational areas.

Role accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Follow safe working procedures and site safety policies for all refuelling operations.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections, report defects, and maintain the fuel truck and bowser in good working order.
  • Load, verify, and document fuel volumes accurately.
  • Record and reconcile meter readings and fuel transactions each shift with zero variance.
  • Refuel equipment according to schedules and instructions.
  • Respond promptly to low-fuel requests and maintain radio contact with pit supervisors.
  • Operate and check the LC Meter and LAS controller.
  • Report leaks, defective breathers, or faulty LAS tags.
  • Prevent and report suspected fuel theft.
  • Drive according to road and weather conditions to protect equipment and ensure safe operations.
  • Ensure bowsers and bulk tanks are left full for the next shift.

Role requirements

Education and qualifications

Applicants must meet the following education and qualification requirements:

  • Secondary education and above.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving license class E.
  • HDV certificate from a college where this category was achieved.
  • Defensive Driving or Master-drive certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

Applicants should have the following experience:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience driving heavy-duty vehicles, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Proven ability to record fuel transactions and complete daily reconciliations with zero variance.
  • Experience with Benz trucks, especially Actros, will be an added advantage.

Knowledge and skills

The successful candidate should demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

  • Ability to identify and report faulty components on Mercedes Benz Actros 3340 trucks.
  • Competence in mining pit and steep terrain driving.
  • Ability to advise supervisors on conditions affecting work.
  • Capability to act as a supervisor when assigned.
  • Awareness that fuel is a significant cost and must be diligently and accurately managed.
  • No criminal record.
