
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through OWM–TAMISEMI, has announced 1,500 volunteer teaching opportunities for secondary schools under the Global Partnership for Education – Teacher Support Programme (GPE–TSP).
This initiative aims to address critical teacher shortages in high-need secondary schools managed by Local Government Authorities. By engaging qualified volunteer teachers, the program supports improved access, equity, and quality of education—particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), vocational subjects, and business studies.
OWM–TAMISEMI plays a central role in coordinating regional and local government administration, including education service delivery, teacher deployment, and capacity building across Tanzania.
The GPE–TSP program is designed to strengthen the teaching workforce by deploying volunteer teachers to secondary schools with the greatest shortages, based on the Secondary Teacher Allocation Protocol (S–TAP).
Total positions available: 1,500 volunteer teachers
Target institutions: Public secondary schools under Local Government Authorities
Priority subjects: STEM, Vocational Subjects, and Business Studies
Implementing authority: OWM–TAMISEMI
Selected volunteer teachers will be expected to perform standard professional teaching responsibilities, including:
Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson notes, and work plans
Developing and effectively using teaching and learning materials
Teaching, assessing students, and maintaining academic progress records
Monitoring and supervising student attendance in school and classrooms
Supporting students’ intellectual, physical, moral, and emotional development
Providing academic guidance, counseling, and professional advice on education matters
Managing and safeguarding school property and teaching resources
Performing additional duties assigned by the Head of School
Applicants must possess one of the following:
Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education specializing in Physics
Bachelor’s degree in Physics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education
Diploma in Education with Physics as a teaching subject
Applicants must have:
Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education in Chemistry
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education
Diploma in Education with Chemistry as a teaching subject
Applicants must hold:
Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education in Biology
Bachelor’s degree in Biology plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education
Diploma in Education with Biology as a teaching subject
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education in Mathematics
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education
Diploma in Education with Mathematics as a teaching subject
All qualifications must be obtained from institutions recognized by the Government of Tanzania.
To qualify for the volunteer teaching positions, applicants must:
Be a Tanzanian citizen with a valid National Identification Number (NIDA)
Be 43 years old or below
Attach copies of birth certificate, academic, and professional certificates
Be willing to work in secondary schools with severe teacher shortages
Not be employed by the Government or any other institution
Have no history of dismissal or compulsory retirement from public service
Upload all required documents through the online system
Obtain an NECTA equivalence number (EQ…) if secondary education was completed outside Tanzania
