Background

Savannas Forever Tanzania (SFTZ) is seeking a qualified consultant to design a participatory enterprise and microfinance curriculum tailored for Maasai youth and women under 30 who are engaged in restoration-linked seed and forage enterprises.

This curriculum will support emerging seed champions and forage producers to strengthen their business capacity while reinforcing sustainable rangeland restoration outcomes.

Scope of Work

The consultant will design a practical, field-ready curriculum that strengthens participants’ capacity in:

  • Value chain literacy (native seed → forage production → livestock productivity → market linkages)
  • Basic business planning and financial management
  • Savings groups and internal lending models (including VSLA-style approaches)
  • Pricing, profit calculation, and simple financial record keeping
  • Risk planning and enterprise diversification
  • Youth leadership, accountability, and group governance

The curriculum will be delivered in person and must be adapted for rural, low-literacy contexts, using highly participatory and visual methods. Materials will be developed primarily in Swahili, with integration of Maa terminology and cultural framing where appropriate.

Expected Deliverables

  • Structured training curriculum with session plans and facilitator guide
  • Participant-friendly training materials (low-literacy adapted tools)
  • Practical exercises, case studies, and group activities
  • Simple templates for budgeting, savings tracking, and profit calculation
  • Suggested monitoring indicators for enterprise growth

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in enterprise development, microfinance, or VSLA programming
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (Master’s degree is an added advantage)
