St. Constantine’s International School (SCIS) was founded in 1951 and is the oldest international school in Tanzania, as well as the largest international school in northern Tanzania. We are a not-for-profit, non-denominational, co-educational, day and boarding, international school. We are predominantly a Cambridge International School, following the EYFS programme in Early Years and then the Cambridge International Programme from Years 1 to 9. In Years 10 and 11, students study the Cambridge IGCSEs and, in Years 12 and 13, they mainly study the Cambridge A-level programme. We are also proud members of Round Square.

Role Reports to: Head of Secondary

The Secondary Cover Supervisor will provide high-quality cover for absent teachers across various subjects and year groups (Key Stages 3–5). The ideal candidate will confidently manage classrooms, deliver pre-prepared lessons, and maintain a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher. They will facilitate learning by establishing a relationship with pupils and by their organization of learning resources and the classroom learning environment.

The Secondary Cover Supervisor will develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children, according to age, ability and aptitude.

Job Description:

The Secondary Cover Supervisor is expected to:

• Promote and contribute to the school’s aims (mission, vision, values, policies).
• Promote a positive school culture which is happy, purposeful and productive.
• Liaise effectively between all staff.
• Support and motivate students.
• Communicate effectively with parents.
• Encourage high standards in all aspects of school life.
• Work within the school’s performance management system.
• Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Responsibilities:

The Secondary Cover Supervisor will:

• Cover lessons within the Secondary Section as required. Primary cover may be required in an exceptional situation, as decided by the School Headteacher.
• Take responsibility for the progress of a class of all pupils.
• Maintain discipline.
• Manage pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour.
• Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area.
• Work with others to plan and coordinate work.
• Organise and take part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening.
• Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly.
• Prepare and deliver lessons to a range of classes of different ages and abilities.
• Select and using a range of different learning resources and equipment, including podcasts and interactive whiteboards.
• Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations.
• Undertake pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and support pupils on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties.
• Participate in departmental meetings, parents’ evenings and whole school training events.
• Undergo regular observations and participating in regular in-service training (INSET) as part of continuing professional development (CPD).

The following may be required in exceptional circumstances, with the Headteacher’s approval and appropriate support provided:

• Organise the classroom and learning resources and create displays to encourage a positive learning environment.
• Prepare and mark work to facilitate positive pupil development.
• Provide feedback to parents and carers on a pupil’s progress at parents’ evenings and other meetings.
• Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area.
• Work with parents to maximise their involvement in the school and the development of resources for the school.
• Mark work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils’ progress and development.
• Research new topic areas, maintain up-to-date subject knowledge, and devise and write new curriculum materials.
• Prepare pupils for qualifications and external examinations.
• Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Experience:

•  Minimum 2 years of teaching essential.
• Experience of the English or Cambridge curriculum is desirable.
• Experience of Curriculum Development is desirable.
