Job Purpose
The Service Crew Trainer delivers hands-on underground training, coaching, and competency assessments for service crew personnel. Reporting to underground operational leadership, this role strengthens workforce capability in underground utilities installation, ventilation fan setup, ground support, dewatering systems, and critical safety protocols in full compliance with Barrick standards and Tanzanian mining legislation.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Practical Underground Training & Installation:
Deliver field training on underground ventilation setup, vent walls, and auxiliary fans (55kW, 90kW, 110kW, 220kW).
Train crews on installing compressed air, water lines, dewatering pump lines, Flygt pumps, mono/fish tanks, and relocating underground refuge chambers.
Facilitate hands-on instruction for ground support, cable bolt intersection installation, grouting, and tensioning.
Ensure routine cleaning and preventive maintenance schedules for underground pumping systems are strictly maintained.
Competency Assessment & Workforce Development:
Conduct field competency assessments using site-approved tools and maintain up-to-date training matrices on the Learning Management System (LMS).
Identify skill gaps and develop targeted coaching plans to build local workforce capability.
Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training manuals, and assessment tools in line with OEM guidelines.
Safety Leadership & Operational Support:
Embed critical control management and hazard identification into all training routines.
Participate in workplace safety audits, incident investigations, and the execution of corrective actions.
Collaborate with Mine Foremen, Supervisors, and Planning teams to align training activities with weekly production targets.
Candidate Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria:
Work Experience: Minimum 7 to 10 years of underground mining experience, with extensive hands-on expertise in service crew or utility installation roles.
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of underground ventilation systems, high-capacity fans, dewatering/pumping networks, refuge chamber relocation, and cable bolting/grouting.
Safety & Systems: Deep understanding of rapid development underground safety management systems and risk assessment.
Desirable / Added Advantage:
Train-the-Trainer Credential: Recognized Trainer and Assessor qualification (TAE, Train-the-Trainer, or equivalent).
Leadership & Emergency Response: Prior experience as an underground Leading Hand / Supervisor, or current credentials in First Aid, Emergency Response Team (ERT), or Mine Rescue.
