Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer, operating a single mine in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries across four continents.
The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Gold Fields of northwestern Tanzania, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. GGML’s head office is in Geita, about 5 km west of the fast-growing town of Geita, with a supporting office in Dar es Salaam.

Objective of the role
The Team Lead 1 – RRU will be responsible for providing a secure environment for the conduct of the mine’s activities and the protection of its assets.
The role involves enforcing security policies and procedures, constantly monitoring operations, and ensuring compliance with company requirements and applicable standards.
Role accountabilities
Deployment and supervision
- Assign tasks to team members.
- Ensure team members are posted to specific sectors as required.
- Confirm that team members have the necessary equipment, including:
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Radios
- Shotguns
Coaching and oversight
- Monitor the capability and performance of team members.
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching where required.
- Address substandard performance or behavior in line with operational expectations.
Safety culture
- Lead daily toolbox meetings to address safety matters.
- Conduct weekly Planned Task Observations (PTOs).
- Promote a strong safety culture within the team.
Hazard and risk management
- Proactively identify security risks within assigned areas.
- Report and monitor potential losses.
- Support risk reduction and prevention efforts across security operations.
Site inspection
- Conduct regular visits and inspections of contracted security posts.
- Ensure operational and environmental standards are maintained.
- Monitor compliance with required security post procedures.
Equipment maintenance
- Ensure all security tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Monitor the condition and use of firearms and security technology.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained according to standard requirements.
Compliance and governance
- Comply with Tanzanian legislation.
- Follow company procedures and AngloGold Ashanti safety standards.
- Adhere to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR).
Reporting and professionalism
- Communicate all irregularities to the Shift Coordinator.
- Maintain elite discipline within the team.
- Project a positive image of the company at all times.
Loss documentation
- Ensure all potential losses are formally reported.
- Ensure loss-related reports are properly signed off.
- Support continuous improvement through accurate documentation and reporting.
Operational flexibility
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Role requirements
Education and qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Ordinary Level Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or above.
- Valid Tanzanian driving license.
Experience
Applicants must have:
- Four years of experience in a mining security environment.
- Two years of experience in a Rapid Response Unit or Rapid Response function.
Knowledge and skills
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Fulfil all in-country specific legislative requirements.
- Have no criminal record.
- Hold a valid driver’s license if required to drive a company-owned vehicle.
- Be physically fit.
- Be able to pass pre-employment and medical examinations or screening.
