Background

The Christian Social Services Commission (CSSC) is an ecumenical body established in 1992 by the Christian Council of Tanzania and the Tanzania Episcopal Conference, to coordinate and facilitate the delivery of social services (health and education) by the member churches in Tanzania. In addition, CSSC coordinates a network of more than 1,000 church owned education facilities. Majority of these church health and education facilities are located in remote and rural areas where 70% of the Tanzanian population reside in those areas.

Christian Social Services Commission (CSSC) is using Dynamics NAV 2017 version currently, CSSC would like to upgrade the ERP to latest Dynamics 365 Business central on-premises version.

Upgrading the Dynamics NAV ERP application to the latest version Dynamics NAV/Business central On-premises.

  • Why Upgrade

Microsoft’s direction for Dynamics 365 Business Central is clear and significant changes have already found their way to recent product releases. This means that any business currently using NAV and wanting to use Dynamics 365 Business Central in the future will eventually need to make the move to the Microsoft Cloud.

1. Assessment:

MS Partner should consult the client to do the assessment for the upgrade the ERP application.  Collect the data required to do the upgrade plan and estimate the cost and time. Collect the Technical information like current system version & build, customizations, add-ons, Database size,

Number of users and any integrations. Collect the functionality information like no of modules and functionalities currently are being used and any challenges that users facing and performance issues.

2. Implementation of the upgrade.

Based the current Dynamics NAV version it will be required to update two or more times. Example: Client is using Dynamics NAV 2017 so it will be required to upgrade to Dynamics BC 14 and from BC14 to latest version Dynamics business central 2021 Wave2.

Each time of the Upgrade consists of the two parts – Technical and data upgrade.

Technical: Identifying the customized objects and converting the CAL version modifications into  the AL extensions. Convert the standard (base) object modifications into the table, page extensions and event subscribers. Third party add-ons should be procured from the add-on company since these add-ons were built in specialized object number series.

Data Upgrade: Assess the data in old version database any data inconsistence or errors in data. Do the Mock data upgrade and test the system with latest database. Verify the setups and configuring the workflows for testing.

3. Testing.

All module, functionality to be tested, and reports to be tested. Prepare the document for the errors solving or fixing issues while data upgrade and testing. Test sheets for UAT.

The new test database should be prepared for user training including new setup configurations.

4. Training.

Prepare the User manuals for each work instructions in each module wise. User training will be conducted and give some practice exercise. System personalization and administration training will be given.

5. Go-live

Prepare the database for final upgrade (which includes the solving data and technical issues raised on mock upgrade process and testing). Mostly this update will be done weekend to make user continues system access to the uses on workdays. Several backups to be taken to make sure the database and data should not be lost. Configurations and setups will be done in the system as per client requirement or existing old system. like approval workflow, email notifications, account schedules etc.

6. Post Go Live Support:

Monitor system access and performance, assist the users on new system if any issues raised.
