The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) mission is to protect the lands and waters upon which all life depends.

As a science-based organization, TNC uses innovative, on-the-ground solutions to the world’s toughest challenges to create a world in which people and nature thrive. In the United Republic of Tanzania, TNC is working with communities, local government, and other stakeholders to advance community-based management of fisheries resources around Lake Tanganyika.

Studies from other places of the fisher communities including Lake Tanganyika itself, report less voice and engagement of women in leadership of fisheries and other natural resources management. TNC recognizes that mainstreaming gender in environmental conservation and livelihood development is inherently a social process that relies on engaging the needs and interests of both men and women.

To understand better the dynamics, The Nature Conservancy, through its Lake Tanganyika Program, wishes to hire a consultant to assess the current state of gender integration, key challenges, and opportunities related to advancing women’s role in fisheries resources management and conservation in Nkasi District Council.

The purpose of this consultancy is to assess the current women’s leadership status, identify the leadership needs of various women groups, and propose needed leadership skills that will enable them to form/join and participate in the conservation umbrella in fishing and coastal communities of Lake Tanganyika in Nkasi DC.

Interested and technical vendors are encouraged to reach out to TNC to get the full request for a proposal.
