The key purpose of the Zone Environment and Safety Coordinator is to define, develop and audit Safety and environment systems, standards and work practices for the Africa Zone to achieve targets set for the VPO Safety and environment Pillars and Safety and Environment KPI’s targets for the year while assisting the sites to manage their Safety & Environmental risks. Manage incident reporting and legal compliance updates for all sites in the zone.. Ensure compliance to global safety and environment standards across all sites including Clear Beer, TAB & VOPs.

Key roles & responsibilities:

Routine site engagements with plant safety and environment managers and plant managers
Assist in setting safety and environment targets for all sites and zone safety and environment teams
Scope projects required to improve the VPO Safety and/or Environment Pillar maturity including Capex and ZBB requirements and projects required to manage safety and environmental risks on site and improve performance on site
Conduct selected investigations into safety and environment incidents across the Zone and drive closure of investigations, gaps and legal compliance across the Zone
Coaching of regional resources on all Safety and environment standards (SOPs) including incident reporting and management, and supporting the plants to identify root causes for any incidents, developing effective preventative and corrective actions
Conduct site safety and environment audits
Creating a SAFETY FIRST culture through implementation of behavioural safety program for Supply including contractors
Ensure delivery of results through implementation of VPO standards and relevant safety and environment SOPs
Environment and waste water treatment skills levels across the continent is a challenge.
Escalating company risks to VP’s and corporate affairs.
Plant stoppages based on major Safety and/or environment non-compliances may have to be initiated by this person.
Minimum requirements:

Tertiary degree
BSc or BTech in a related field
5 years work experience related to Safety Management and / or Engineering Management or in a management position in a brewery
Desirable But Not Essential:

Government safety/legal accredited qualification (SA GCC Factories or equivalent)
Professional Engineering accreditation (advantageous)
Worked as an environment or safety Manager at a plant
Experience in African countries outside SA
