SCOPING NOTICE FOR THE PROPOSED NYAMULILIMA GOLD MINING PROJECT FOR GEITA GOLD MINING LIMITED, GEITA DISTRICT, GEITA REGION

Nyamlilima Gold Mining project is located in the Lake Victoria goldfields approximately 20 KM in straight line and 25 km by road from Geita town. The proposed project is owned by Geita Gold Mining LIMITED AS SUBSIDIARY COMPANY OF Anglo gold Ashant. GMML manages and undertake the feasibility studies for the project. The project site is located within Nywilolelwa village, Nyamwilolelwa ward, Geita District Geita Region. The project is an advanced stage exploration project with considerable drilling and associated mining information which is currently being reviewed as part of pre-feasibility study to ascertain a level of development

GGML has been operating using conventional process open a pit and underground mining method as well as carbon-in-lead gold extraction process. However the proved reserves to be extracted by open cast mining method at Geita will be exhausted by the end of 2020. For GMML to continue playing a significant role Tanzania economy, further economically feasibility reserve have been identified. Nyamlila deposit have proven to be gold bearing zones that would be accessed and brought in production though surface and potentially undergoing mining method. The proposed nyamlilima deposit are among the identified reserve which will help the sustenance of GMML beyond 2020. In order to carry out an implementation of the project an environmental impact assessment required as stipulated in the Tanzania Environmental management act 2004, the Tanzania Environmental impact assessment regulation of 2005 and its amendments of 2018 and the mining Act 2010

Furthermore in order to meet the local environmental legislation requirements and ensure the operations are in line with internationally accepted standards for the environmental management and social requirements the company has appointed MTL Consulting Company limited to undertake the environmental and social impact assessment study for the project. The study will investigate the project positive and negative impacts and provide measures both to enhance positive impacts and mitigate negative ones
