HELVETAS
Swiss Intercooperation (HELVETAS) is an independent Swiss development
organization (Swiss INGO) actively contributing to improvement of the
living conditions and status of economically poor and socially
disadvantaged people in more than 33 developing countries. In its
program in Tanzania, HELVETAS has been implementing development
initiatives in two thematic fields of Skills Development and Education
(SDE) and Sustainable and Inclusive Economics (SIE) through various
projects including Hifadhi Nafaka Salama (Save Safe Food), a 3-year
(August 2019 – September 2022) postharvest management initiative funded
by Danida Market Development Partnerships (DMDP) in Rukwa, Katavi and
Morogoro Regions.
Also locally known as Hifadhi Nafaka Salama, It
is among the HELVETAS Tanzania initiatives to empower smallholder
farmers to store maize grains in a safe manner and as the result;
creates employment for youth, strengthens food security and income among
rural farming communities in the country. The project is implemented in
collaboration with the two commercial partners (A to Z Textile Mills
Limited and Pee Pee Tanzania Limited), two Regional Administrative
Secretary (RAS; Rukwa and Katavi) and nine Local Government Authorities
(LGAs).
The project aims to promote improved postharvest
management (PHM) for maize, including large-scale adoption of tarpaulin
and hermetic bags to store maize in a safe manner. The commercial
objective is to enable two manufacturers of hermetic bags (AtoZ and
PPTL) to establish sustainable supply systems, thus generating
employment and income opportunities along the input and distribution
value chain. The project will directly contribute to SDG Goal 8.2 to
achieve higher levels of economic productivity through diversification,
technological upgrading and innovation.
HELVETAS Tanzania is now
looking for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) consultant/Intern who
will join Hifadhi Nafaka Salama project team in Rukwa and Katavi
regions.
Position: Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) consultant/Intern (this is not full time employment)
Duration: Short term (February- September 2022)
Reporting: Project Manager, Hifadhi Nafaka Salama, HELVETAS Tanzania
Duty station: Sumbawanga; with frequent local travels for field support and monitoring in remote villages of Rukwa and Katavi Regions
Tasks (duties & responsibilities)
- Prepare data collection tools
- Draft
terms of references (TORs) for ongoing training events, rapid
assessment and end line survey, hereby considering the developed results
framework - Monitoring and Evaluation: Conduct timely and day to
day operational monitoring and learning of the project, data collection
and report writing - Support local business partners (hub agro
dealers, bag vendor’s/lead farmers in developing digital tools for
post-harvest technology (PHT) stock management Support project team in
report writing, documentation and knowledge management Support the
project team in preparation of technical reports - Document project related lessons learnt, best practices, success stories and case studies.
- Any other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
Competencies/Qualifications
- Minimum
Bachelor degree in Food Science and Technology, Agriculture Community
Development, Rural Development, Business Administration, Statistics or
another related field. - Experience in post-harvest harvest management
- Experience in use of KOBO Toolbox software (added advantage)
- Experience in M&E and with digital data collection tools (added advantage)
Soft skills such as
- Good and active team member, with independence and well-structured mode of operation
- Ability to improve, innovate and solve problems, demonstration of digital skills
- Promotes gender and social equity
- Good communication skills (Good command in English language)
