RUWASA is an abbreviation for the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency. It is an Agency for Water Supply and Sanitation in Rural Areas established by the Water Supply and Sanitation Services Act No. 5 of 2019. RUWASA commenced its operations in July 2019.

The responsibilities of RUWASA include:

1. Designing and overseeing the construction of rural water projects.
2. Conducting research on groundwater.
3. Drilling wells and constructing reservoirs.
4. Registering and empowering rural water user groups.
5. Encouraging private sector participation in rural water sector development.
6. Advising the Minister of Water on the operation of the rural water sector.
