Job Title: Driver

The Employee is requested to keep a flexible attitude and good degree of adaptation to possible modifications and/or integration to the foreseen duties based on necessities that may arise locally and to try to integrate his/her work in the wider context of SSA to facilitate consistency and continuity among current and prospective activities.
The Driver must be able to handle various assignments, sometimes under pressure of deadlines. Willingness to work long hours. He/she must be cooperative, hardworking, adaptability, as is the ability to project a professional and consistent image.

Key Responsibilities:

Transportation:

  • Safely transport students and staff to and from designated locations. Ability to drive manual/stick shift vehicle is an added advantage
  • Ensure timely arrival and departure for school related activities.
  •  To drive defensively, avoiding and handle any unexpected events by other road users. Complete driver’s log, to include name, destination(s), kilometers, and time on daily basis and ensure the vehicle is used for official purpose only.
  • Excellent navigation skills and proficiency of navigation applications to find delivery locations. Knowledge of driving routes of all key destinations especially in Dar Es Salaam.
  • Time management and organizational skills to keep track of deliveries and stay on schedule by Researching and planning for traffic, construction and weather delays.

Logistics Support:

  • Assist in loading and unloading school materials and equipment.
  • Maintain emergency equipment in the vehicle, first aid kit, spare tyre, towing rope, water supplies, etc.
  • Timely replacement of vehicle-identified kits on their expiry (including first aid, fire extinguisher etc)
  • There will be proper adherence to road traffic rules.
  • Familiarity with electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.

3) Maintenance of Vehicle:

  • Ensure the Servicing the official vehicle with gasoline, lubricants, coolant and battery electrolyte and performing minor maintenance tasks and repairs
  • Request through Maintenance requisition form to perform routine service/vehicle repairs and notify the Transport Officer/Transport Manager in writing if major repairs are necessary’
  • Report in writing any mechanical issues promptly to the designated authority.
  • Vacuum and clean interiors and wash and polish exteriors of your assigned vehicle.

Security and Safety:

  • Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.
  • Implement safety measures to ensure the well-being of passengers.
  • Ensure the vehicle is always parked in a safe location and at recommended time.
  • Report any accidents to the Transport Officer and the relevant authority immediately and get references where possible including particulars of the Driver, registration number, and insurance policy number, in case of involvement with other motor vehicles.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, incidents and fuel consumption.
  • Ensure all required documents for the vehicle are valid and safe, including Insurance, road safety stickers, tool kit, triangles, reflectors, fire extinguisher and first Aid Kit.
  • Submit regular reports to the administrative department.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Must have attended NIT driving course and has a certificate for PSV.
  • Valid Driving license for PSV.
  • At Least Form Four Education Certificate
  • Essential 3 years minimum driving experience.
  • Experience of driving PSV at least for 2 years
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, procedure manuals, work instructions etc.
  • Essential language: English and Swahili
