Job Description: Electrician of Heavy Machines
POSITION OVERVIEW
Department: Open Pit Mining
Reports to: Supervisor – Maintenance
Purpose of the Role
The Electrician of Heavy Machines will be responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of mining equipment with a focus on electrical systems. The role emphasizes minimizing equipment downtime by conducting thorough inspections and early defect identification. Safety and compliance are essential throughout all task executions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine electrical inspections on heavy mining equipment in accordance with work packages.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on-site with minimal supervision.
- Prioritize planned electrical maintenance to reduce unplanned breakdowns.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and procedures.
- Promote teamwork and clear communication across departments.
- Maintain proper housekeeping in all working areas.
- Accurately complete repair reports and submit to the supervisor.
- Follow company values, policies, and legal compliance standards in task execution.
- Collaborate with the planning team to ensure effective maintenance scheduling.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Diploma or Full Technician Certificate in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automotive Engineering.
- VETA Trade Test Certificate (Grade I) in Auto Electrical/Mechanical.
- VETA Level III Certificate in Auto Electrical/Mechanical.
- 5–8 years’ experience in the mining industry, specifically with heavy machines.
- Proven ability in troubleshooting electrical systems on machines (ADTs, Excavators, Dozer, and Graders e.tc)
- Desirable:
- Advanced Diploma or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Computer literacy and ability to read electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of mechanical-electrical integration systems.
Additional Requirements
- Strong auto-electrical skills and understanding of heavy equipment electrical systems.
- Understanding of safety mechanisms and electronic protection systems on mining machines.
- Physically and mentally fit; capable of working under pressure and minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills in both English and Swahili.
- Must hold a valid Tanzanian driving license and driving competency certificate.
- Sound knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
- Team player with high integrity, discipline, and commitment to quality work.
