Introduction

The Organization of Asasi ya Uwezeshaji Tanzania has secured fund from USAID Heshimu Bahari (Respect the Ocean) to implement a five years project activity that aims to enhance the ecological resilience and productivity of high marine biodiversity areas in Tanzania. The activity will work with government agencies, communities, private sector, and civil society to establish an enabling environment and a science driven framework for sustainable marine protected areas and wild caught fishery co-management to help reduce threats to marine and coastal biodiversity within Mainland Tanzania and the Zanzibar. However, Asuta has been awarded to implement the project in Dar es Salaam and Mtwara seascapes. The following position required to be recruited immediately before the project commence.

Job Location: Dar es Salaam and Mtwara Seascapes

Job Description

General Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor timely implementation of Gender-related interventions in relation HB- ASUTA priorities.
  2. Provide capacity building to the community to ensure proper planning and implementation of Gender-related activities (e.g. GBV capacity building, gender sensitization meetings to different community actors, women, and Youth Capacity building among others.
  3. Engage in community dialogues and discussions as the strategy to mobilize against GBV and enhance women and youth empowerment
  4. Integrate GBV and messages in awareness-raising programs and mass media campaigns through advocacy campaigns and Ant-SRGBV
  5. Build capacity of grassroots groups of women and YOUTH through introductory meetings and training to community leaders on bad traditional norms, religious beliefs, practices, and stereotypes, which exacerbate violence against women, girls, and children.
  6. Conduct training in gender mainstreaming; GBV, gender and safeguarding training, and capacity building as necessary.
  7. Conduct gender capacity building and women and Youth empowerment workshops and session the coverage areas.
  8. Support mobilization and advocacy activities to address stigma, discrimination and Gender Based Violence
  9. Gather community-based information through available networks to facilitate the development and maintenance of site-level GBV-related directories for the purpose to refer and link post-GBV survivors to relevant support units
  10. Closely monitor the quality of the Gender integration work and support effective referral and linkage post-GBV survivor linkage to medical care, police, and social/legal services.
  11. Lead regional workshops for relevant stakeholders, staff, and key actors on advocacy and Gender-related topics
  12. Conduct supervisory visits using the ASUTA supervisory tools to assess Gender activities and their integration into the other services; as well as conduct visits to the women and Youth groups.
  13. Establish effective work relationships with communities and Districts and Community Development Offices, CMAC and VMAC partners on program activities at the regional level
  14. Strengthen communication and collaboration with LGA at all levels to ensure ownership and sustainability of the program
  15. Raise awareness on the problem of GBV and gender equality to the community targeting Youth and Women
  16. Engage into community dialogues and discussions as the strategy to mobilize against GBV and enhanced women and girl’s empowerment

Key qualifications:

  1. University degree in social sciences, Gender studied public health, international development, or related field.
  2. 2-5 years’ progressive experience working with key population groups, and familiarity with internationally recommended policies.
  3. 2-5 years experience of supporting Gender Transformative and responsive interventions for GBV prevention and response programming;
  4. Fluent in spoken and written English and Swahili.
  5. Facilitation on gender transformative workshops

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning and Reporting.

Participate in data analysis and data use for programming   by population category (gender and sex disaggregate)

  • Conduct data analysis on community-supported groups established and a number of participants graduating against the set target per month.
  • Monitor regional implementation plans and progress to Gender integration intervention
  • Conduct supportive supervision to supported sites and ensure timely report of any red flags
  • Document experiences, prepare program and site visits reports, presentations, briefs and articles/success stories
  • Work collaboratively with other project team members to ensure necessary program planning, development, and management activities function smoothly and efficiently and in an integrated manner
  • Monitor and assess community response at the project wards in the region and the entire coverage area
