The position

About Empowering Teachers Initiative Project: Results for development (R4D), The Government of Tanzania through Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE), and the Aga Khan Development Agencies namely Aga Khan University (AKU) through the Institute for Educational Development (IED), East Africa and Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Tanzania have teamed up to conduct a study entitled Assessing the scale-up of a technology-supported, government-led teacher professional development programme in Tanzania: Considering issues of equity, agency, and adaptation. Baptised, Mafunzo Endelevu kwa Walimu Kazini (MEWAKA), literally Continuous Education for In-Service Teachers, shortened to TCPD, reflects the shift from traditional short-term workshops to ongoing support. It is an evidence-based, decentralised programme currently being implemented in all government schools nationally.
The proposed study aims to investigate teachers’ equitable participation, effective implementation as the programme expands, and schools’ and individuals’ agency to flexibly adapt the programme to suit their contexts, including exploration of technology use and depth of engagement in TCPD from perspectives of female and male teachers, teachers with disabilities, and those in rural or marginalised communities.

The study through Aga Khan Foundation seeks to hire a Junior Research Officer to administratively support the study.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for scheduling and organising significant project workshops.
  • Managing operational communication to AKU, TIE and EdTech Hub and maintain contact lists.
  • Plan, attend and take detailed minutes in ETI PM and finance meeting.
  • Making travel arrangements, such as booking flights, cars, and making hotel and restaurant reservations.
  • Providing operational project management and administrative support, including contracting, finance, data management, reporting, logistics.
  • Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports.
  • Liaise with executive and senior administrative assistants to handle requests and queries from senior managers.

The requirements

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Business Administration, or any other relevant training.
  • Two years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel, spreadsheet, database, and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports and summaries of technical nature.
  • Experience managing budgets and expenses.
  • Comfortable handling confidential information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Interpersonal skills, professional and courteous demeanor, excellent office and phone etiquette, and the ability to diffuse tense situations.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and navigate multiple deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Ability to work well independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Excellent team player, able to think and adapt proactively to changing situations.
  • An unwavering commitment to the protection and safeguarding of others, particularly those in vulnerable situation.
