Programme Overview

The Simiyu Climate Resilience Project (SCRP) aims to enhance the climate resilience of rural and urban households, especially small-scale farmers and women, in the Simiyu Region. It also seeks to improve policies for climate change adaptation. The fourth component of SCRP focuses on reducing vulnerability through climate-adapted and integrated sanitation and hygiene practices in the Busega, Bariadi, and Itilima districts. This involves constructing faecal sludge treatment systems, acquiring faecal sludge exhauster trucks, creating gender-sensitive sanitation facilities, and providing materials for improved household latrines. The specific assignment for SNV within this component includes setting up and maintaining public gender-sensitive sanitation solutions (e.g., public toilets at markets, schools, and health care facilities) and supervising the construction of at least 1,000 improved household toilets.
