WaterAid is an International Non-Governmental Organization, with a vision of ensuring Safe
Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for Everyone, Everywhere by 2030. WaterAid has had its
operations in Tanzania since 1983 under the name “WaterAid Tanzania” which is registered as
Non-Governmental Organization in The Republic of Tanzania (NO.SO.7557).
WaterAid in Tanzania (WAT) operates as a Country Programme and functional office of WaterAid
UK; within East African Region. The head office is located in Dar es Salaam, Rufiji Street, Plot
No.1469, Masaki Area within Kinondoni District.
1.0 Background .
WaterAid has been funded by JICA to implement a project called data collection survey on the
improvement of hygiene behavior. This project aims at collecting the information on WASH status
and current situation of hygiene behaviors in schools and health care facilities, conduct pilot
activities on hygiene improvement in schools and health care and based on the results of the pilot
activities, compile the findings and knowledge on hygiene improvement give the outcomes
internationally including the within the pilot countries. This survey will take place in 135 institutions
(90 schools and 45 healthcare facilities) across 3countries: Tanzania, Madagascar and Nepal.
This project will also focus on improving WASH services and integrating hygiene behavior change
(HBC) interventions primarily targeting school students and teachers; and healthcare facility
(HCF) staff and clients. WA, together with local partners and in collaboration with the respective
country Governments, will reach approximately 31,500 students and 1,800 teachers in schools
and 450 health staff and 90 cleaners in HCFs across the three countries. For Tanzania, this
project target 30 schools and 15 health care facilities in Kisarawe, Pwani Region
