A. INTRODUCTION

The Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006 mandate the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) to license, regulate and supervise bank and financial institutions in Tanzania. As a regulator, BOT is mandated with the responsibility of ensuring stable, sound and safe banking sector and financial system at large. In discharging this responsibility, it is the interest of BOT to ensure that, staff of banks and financial institutions acquire skills necessary in managing various risks associated with banking operations.

The training under consideration, Credit Analysis and Loan Management (CALM), complement the central role played by banking institutions and other lenders in extending credit within an economy. Credit analysis and Loan Management seeks to identify the appropriate level of Credit risk associated with customer’s borrowing while managing the borrowed fund.

Credit risk arises from the potential that an obligor is either unwilling to perform on an obligation or its ability to perform such obligation is impaired resulting in economic loss to the institution. Credit Risk Management refers to the practice of mitigating losses by understanding the adequacy of bank’s capital and loan loss reserves at any given time.

It is along this background that the Bank of Tanzania Academy has organized a one-week course, which is intended to impart necessary skills to staff of banking institutions and other stakeholders on how manage credit risk

  B. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

The objective of the course is to impart necessary skills to participants on how to analyze, review and manage their credit portfolio in line with regulatory requirements and applicable good practices. Also the course will expose participants on the essentials of Loan management as emphasized by the regulator and other global standard bother.

C. CONTENTS OF THE COURSE

  • Legal and regulatory framework pertaining to credit management;
  • Element of active credit risk management system;
  • Responsibilities’ of board and senior management with respect to credit risk management:
  • Organization and governance of credit department;
  • Credit accommodation appraisal;
  • Credit accommodation documentation and =aiming;
  • Internal credit risk rating;
  • Principles of credit risk management
  • Managing non-performing credit accommodations: and
  • Assessing IFRS 9 impatient on credit and regulatory provisions on credit

D. TARGET GROUP

This course is designed specifically for officers of banking institutions and other related companies who involves in credit operations including those from other functions which provide oversight and support to credit function such as risk management internal credit compliance. finance. legal. information technology, branch operations and treasury.

E. SCHEDULED DATES AND DURATION

One (1) week: From 16th to 20th May 2022. First Day Registration starts at 08:30 AM

F. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a hands-on training whereby each participant is required to bring his/her own laptop. The Bank of Tanzania will provide network connectivity.
