The Government of United Republic of Tanzania, through President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RAW) and the Ministry of Works and Transport, intends to implement Msimbazi Basin Development Project.

The main project objective is to mitigate floods within the basin, especially on the lower part of the basin, and optimize opportunities which will result from flood mitigation interventions. The project will raconteur the lower basin to increase conveyance capacity of storm water resulting into having flood plains and safer lands which will then be used for urban redevelopment and city park. The project will also implement erosion control measures in the upstream, solid waste management programmes and associated interventions and construct a new bridge at the Jangwani area.

One of initial activities of the project is to resettle communities that reside in flood prone areas in the sixteen (16) identified sub-wards “mitaa”. The resettlement will be guided by Tanzanian Law and regulations in line with World Bank Resettlement policies.

PO-RALG hired a Consultant (i.e., NORPLAN (T) Ltd) to prepare Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for the flood prone communities. The Consultant commenced the assignment on November 10, 2021, by identifying Project Affected Persons (PAPS) and their properties. This is to inform the public that the Government prohibits any kind of development in the identified area from the said cut-off date onward.

In proceedings of RAP preparation, PO-RALG, in collaboration with the Consultant, intends to carry out verification exercise to all PAPS and their properties as well as confirming preferred resettlement option for each PAP whether k is ‘leash compensation’. or “in-kind compensations. The exercise will be done for two (2) weeks from April 04, 2022. Please consult your respective sub-ward “mtaa’ offices for the exercise schedule.

PO-RALG is requesting necessary cooperation from the PAPS for achieving timely and successful implementation of the verification exercise.
