Africa Franchising Accelerator Project-(AFRAP)

This call follows a press release on 28* July 2021 introducing the Africa Franchising Accelerator Project (AFRAP). ‘One key activity under AFRAP is to train resource persons who would support upcoming franchise businesses and the entire franchise ecosystem to grow the franchise sector in Tanzania and potentially, in Africa AFRAP offers technical assistance to at least 100 indigenous Tanzanian brands to convert into and roll out franchises.

This intensive five-day training covers: general issues around franchising, what it is, how it works, benefits to the country, franchisor and franchisee, developing a franchise-specific market study prior to franchising, franchise- specific strategic planning, protecting your Intellectual Property (IP), developing a strong support team at head office to support your franchise system, financing your franchise development scheme, prototyping, franchise systems development, testing and documenting into franchise operations, procedures and training manuals, protecting your franchise system through legal instruments-the non-disclosure document, the franchise disclosure document and the franchise agreement- franchise system marketing and selling and franchise system roll out. The training will also cover what you need when seeking to became a franchisee, benefits of becoming a franchisee, intematianal best practices in franchising and the role of the World Franchise Council (WFC) in regulating franchising. Participants who will successfully complete the training shall be certified by the project, allowing them to work aid earn from the project’s network ef upcoming 160 indigenous franchisers and franchisees over the project’s life and beyond. They will also be encouraged to join the Franchise Association of Tanzania (FATA) to help grow the sector. Upon project closure, it is expected that this group shall support future growth of the franchise sector in Tanzania and across Africa.

TPSF now calls for professionals from the following professional fields to express their interest in accessing this training and later being “attached” to franchise brands to grow the sector. 1) Commercial lawyers(ii) Tax experts (iii) accountants’( iv) auditors ( v) finance specialists (vi)HR specialists, and (viii) general Business Development Service providers.

Selected applicants shall i) provide proof of qualifications in their respective fields ii) have at least three years working experience in their field iii) pay Tshs 200,000 for the training iv) be based or able to work in Dar Es Salaam, Mbeya, Arusha, Dodoma, Mwanza and Zanzibar where the franchise businesses under the project are based

The training shall take place in Dar Es Salaam at the Global Learning Centre located at the IFM building, Shaaban Robert Street between 15-19 November 2021. About Franchising

Franchising is a business arrangement where a business with a tried, tested and trusted brand (the franchisor) grants another independent party (the franchisee) the rights to market and sell the franchisor’s specific goods or services over an agreed period using the franchisor’s intellectual property, including its entire business systems. In consideration, the franchisee pays an initial fee to join the franchisor’s system and ongoing royalties for the entire period of the agreement and receives ongoing support from the franchisor.
