CALL FOR INDIGENOUS GROWTH-SEEKING BUSINESSES IN DAR, ARUSHA, ZANZIBAR, MBEYA, MWANZA AND DODOMA TO JOIN THE AFRAP FRANCHISE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

This call follows a press release on 28° July 2021 introducing the Africa Franchising Accelerator Project

(AFRAP) whose main deliverable is to build at least 100 indigenous franchise brands m Tanzania by January 2025. This will be achieved through a carefully-executed franchise development program to develop growth- oriented indigenous businesses to build their brands into local franchises.

Franchise development is a long-term business growth strategy used by businesses to achieve faster and leaner growth. It has also been used as a manufacturing and distribution strategy-to manufacture and distribute specific goods in wider geographies than is practically possible using other models. Any business can be franchised, 20 long as it meets a basic franchise ability criteria Businesses seeking to grow outside Tanzania into the African Continental Free Trade Area- (AFCFTA) stand a better chance through franchising rather than through other models.

AFRAP’s franchise development program is an intensive six-stage training, coaching and mentoring program. Training covers: general issues around franchising, what it is, how it works, benefits to the country, franchisor and franchisee, conducting franchise-specific market research and developing franchise-specific strategic plans, protecting your Intellectual Property (IP), developing a strong support team at head office to support your franchise system, financing your franchise development scheme, prototyping, franchise systems development, testing and documenting into franchise operations, procedures and training manuals, protecting your franchise system through legal instruments-the non-disclosure document, the franchise disclosure document and the franchise agreement- franchise system marketing and selling and franchise system roll out. Prominently, the program includes matching selected businesses with providers of cheap capital needed by the prospective franchisors to franchise their brands.

The training is arranged in six phases of a minimum three days each, with the initial training leading to selection of the 100 businesses being an intensive 6-day Emprises Entrepreneurship Training Workshop (EETW), after which selected businesses proceed to the five-phase franchise development program, all spread over the next twelve months. After each training, AFRAP and AFRAP-trained subject-specific consultants, hand-hold each participating brand to build the structure of their desired franchise system, before finally rolling out their franchise systems Brands which go through this program can expect to became big players in the market currently opening up under ASCFTA. Businesses that successfully finish the franchise development program shall be encouraged to join the Franchise Association of Tanzania (FATA) to help grow the sector.

TPSF now call for OWNERS (NOT MANAGERS) of growth-seeking Tanzanian businesses IN ALL SECTORS OF THE ECONOMY, to join AFRAP’s Emprises Entrepreneurship Training Workshop (EETW) through which 100 businesses shall be selected to join the franchise development program. To join the program businesses would meet the following enteria) provide audited accounts with profitability for at least the last three years ii) Show annual tarn over of at Least Tshs. 250,000,000.00) have or be in the processes of opening, a3 a minimum, a second outlet iv) present a short statement of where they plan to be in the next 5 years

v) pay a token fee of Tshs 250,000.00 for the EETW’ and upon selection Tshs 500,000.00 for the franchise development program vi) Demonstrate owners’ commitment to take their brand through the twelve-month franchise development program and vi) Be ready to work with AFRAP-trained franchise resource persons at nominal charges, together with mainstream AFRAP consultants {at no extra cost} to develop their franchise systems. EETW training dates and venues; Zanzibar (22-27 Nov 2021), Mbeya (29 Nov-4 Dec 2021), Mwanza (6- 11 Dee 2021), Arusha (13-18 Dec 2021), Dodoma (3-8 Jan 2022) and Dar es Salaam (10-15 Jan 2022).

About Franchising

Franchising is a business arrangement where a business with a tried, tested and trusted brand (the franchisor) grants another independent party (the franchisee) the nights to market and sell the franchisor’s specific goods or services over an agreed period using the franchisor’s intellectual property, including its entire business systems.

ii) trade and commerce, (iv) natural resources and tourism, (v) financial services and banking, (vi) services (vii) construction and engineering, (viii) transport and logistics, (ix) oil and gas, (x) women in business, (xi) mining, (xii) Zanzibar entrepreneurs, (xiii) regional businesses and (xiv) large corporates.
