1.1 Background
TAHA is an apex private sector member-based Organization that primate’s horticulture transformation and commercialization in Tanzania. In supporting the transformation and commercialization of horticulture in the country. TAHA provides extension services to small-, medium- and large-scale farmers. and also works with input dealers (for fertilizers and plant protection substances – both biological and industrial}, processors and off takers.
TAHA is in receipt of a three-year (2022 – 2025) project funded by Sida, called “Growing Wealth Through Horticulture’ (GROWTH), which will potentially operate in selected Regions of Tanzania in the Northern zone, Central Zone. Southern Growth Corridor and the Coastal Zone, among another thematic area, the project will focus on thematic areas that may affect the environment. including productivity (practices and technologies like land clearance & tillage. pesticide and fertilizer application, staking, and use of water); reforestation using fruit trees through establishment of commercial nurseries in collaboration with key stakeholders such as AMAGRU, WWE, etc,
Based on this background, TAHA is in the inception stages of the project, and is desirous ta conduct a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) to assess the potential effect (positive and negative) of the practices and technologies that will be promoted by TAHA to farmers. and come up with remedial plans to mitigate the negative effects. and upheld the positive effects on land, air and water.
It is this ground that. TAHA seeks for competitive and detailed proposal guiding TAHA through a Strategic Environmental Assessment{SEA}. which will result in producing a detailed technical report for general execution of the project.
