OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To plan and coordinate the construction and maintenance work on proposed projects in the company’s industrial and domestic premises within agreed norms and ensure that work is efficiently undertaken at the most economic cost without sacrificing the quality of materials and workmanship.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership in the design, development and construction of a huge range of projects in the built and natural environment.
- Undertake technical and feasibility studies and site investigations, develop detailed designs, assess potential risks of specific projects and undertake risk management.
- Supervise tendering procedures and putting together of proposals, liaising effectively with colleagues, supervising and visiting contractors.
- Creatively and logically resolve design and development problems.
- Manage budgets and other projects resources.
- Responsibilities:
- Mainly responsible for the Supervision, implementation, and organization of engineering works
- Direct, manage and grow a lean but effective team in the Engineering Office.
- Supervise the preparation of BOQs and estimation of costs
- Inspect equipment, instruments, products, or systems to ensure conformance to specifications, safety standards, or applicable codes or regulations
- Provide technical support and instructions to staff or customers regarding equipment standards, assisting with specific and difficult in-service engineering
- Provide engineering services for production, quality, safety, environment in house and on our projects
- Set annual targets, KPI’s and conduct monthly progress reviews
- Manage and develop an Engineering Bureau by directing engineering designers for works/projects monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
- Support the Project Manager in the execution of work on site
- Preparing reports, updating the departmental head on work in progress, difficulties, and recommendations for possible solutions
- Lead and make engineering analyses for complete civil/mechanical works.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a reputed university.
- Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in a busy civil engineering environment.
- Must have mathematics, Information Technology and Science skills.
- Ability to clearly explain design ideas and plans, analyze large amounts of data and assess solutions.
- Confident decision making, excellent communication skills, project management skills.
- Ability to work within budgets and deadlines, good team working skills and comprehensive knowledge of relevant legal regulations.
- Must be registered by Tanzania Engineering board
- Proven Supervisory, leadership and administration skills
- Computer literate (Ms office) a must have and ability to use SAP (MM module) will be an added advantage.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Able to generate reports and with very good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ms Office:
- Should be able to generate workshop break down reports using excel and word. Analytical Skills:
- Able to analyse reports and interpret them for implementation purpose.
